UCF Football Wins Big Over BCU At Home
The UCF Knights Football hosted Bethune Cookman Wildcats Saturday night with 38,443 in attendance. Taking place on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the United States of America, both programs came together and put together an emotion filled patriotic halftime presentation. Knights were looking to extend their record to 2-0 while the Wildcats would be hoping for the upset and get their first win.
UCF got on the board first and quickly within the first 3 minutes of the game. After a 39 yard kick off return, UCF QB Dillon Gabriel led the Knights to a 55 yard scoring drive which capped off with a 17 yard touchdown run by Isaiah Bowser.
BCU countered on their first possession by posting a 75 yard scoring drive of their own with BCU QB Shannon Patrick connecting with Darryl Powell Jr for the 15 yard touchdown.
Tied at 7-7, each team traded off punts on their next 2 possessions. From there, it would all UCF for the remainder of the first half. The UCF defense shut down BCU’s offense completely highlighted with an interception by LB Tatum Bethune. The Knights offense found the end zone 4 more times in the half with 3 touchdowns from Isaiah Bowser and 1 from Brandon Johnson. At the half, UCF 35-7.
The second half was almost a mirror image of the first. Both teams would trade off touchdowns (UCF Gabriel 44yd run & BCU Patrick to Ellington 34yd pass) before the UCF defense locked down all of BCU’s offensive drives fueling the Knights offense to 3 more touchdowns. Trillion Coles secured 2 touchdowns & Kaedin Robinson added another.
Looking ahead, the UCF Knight will take to the road for the first time of the 2021 season against a hungry ACC opponent with 1-1 Louisville. Bethune Cookman will be at home to face undefeated 1-0 Alabama A&M.
