FSU Takes Down #20 Notre Dame in Play4Kay Game
Florida State Women’s basketball secured their first AP Top 25 win of the season and first ever win over Notre Dame 70-65.
The Lady Seminoles were looking to achieve their first win over the Irish this weekend as they met at the Tuck Center Sunday, and they fought to achieve their goal. The game, a Play4Kay game, raised cancer awareness, which holds a special significance with the Seminoles as Coach Semrau’s mother recently battled cancer and she holds a long-time friendship with Kay Yow. The teams traded in their typical school colors for pink in honor of the cause.
Both teams had even scoring in the first half with FSU up by one point at the end of the half. Myers led the Seminoles with 6 points and 5 rebounds. Miles led the Irish with 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists in the first half.
The Seminoles came out strong to start the second half, going on a 9-0 run and ending the 3rd quarter up by 14 points. The Irish came back in the 4th quarter to cut their deficit to 2 with one minute left. Jones and Gordon’s free throws with a few seconds left helped seal the important win for FSU.
What’s next: FSU improves to 11-10 overall 5-6 ACC and will travel to face Duke(14-7 overall 5-6 ACC) on Thursday, Feb 10 at 6pm. Notre Dame falls to 18-5 overall 9-3 ACC and will look to rebound at home on Thursday, Feb 10 at 6pm against U of Miami(12-9 overall 5-6 ACC).
