FAU Wins Big in Season Opener Against Charlotte
Florida Atlantic opened up their season with a dominate 43-13 win over Charlotte. FAU was hitting on all cylinders against the 49ers on Saturday night. They won their battles in almost every category you can imagine – total yards, time of possession, third down efficiency, turnovers, penalties, and so on.
Graduate senior, N’Kosi Perry, had a great game as the starting quarterback for the Owls. Perry threw for 256 yards and a touchdown, while completing 73% of his passes. He displayed leadership and poise throughout the game, while operating the offense.
Redshirt sophomore, Willie Taggart Jr., also got some playing time later in the game. Taggart Jr. didn’t have many chances to throw, but he showed off his legs, running for 26 yards on three attempts.
Larry McCammon, junior running back, led the team on the ground, going for 118 yards on 14 rushes. McCammon started the scoring barrage for FAU on his 52 yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
FAU’s defense had a dominate performance as well, particularly up front. The Owls’ defensive line seemed to be clicking all night, only giving up 62 total rushing yards and tallying four sacks.
The game really seemed to open up after sophomore safety, Justin McKithen’s 63 yard pick-six in the second quarter. From there, FAU took a 19 point lead and never looked back.
This was a very solid performance all around for FAU, as they picked up a win on head coach, Willie Taggart’s, birthday.
FAU will travel up to Athens, Ohio for their next game against Ohio University on Saturday, September 3rd.
