Mario Cristobal’s Takeaways From Loss to Texas A&M
Miami traveled to College Station to take on Texas A&M in front of a sold out Kyle Field crowd on Saturday night. The Hurricanes lost to the Aggies, 9-17, in the primetime matchup.
After watching the film, in Monday’s press conference, Cristobal expressed some of the things he thought his team did well, including their overall competitiveness, their play at the line of scrimmage, and their handling of the environment.
When talking about the team’s play at the line of scrimmage against the Aggies, Cristobal said, “It shows progress. We think they’re a really good offensive line. They’re a really good defensive line.” And added, “It’s not where we want to be, but it terms of matching intensity and matching physicality, there’s definitely progress.”
Tyler Van Dyke was not sacked during the game against Texas A&M, while the defensive line recorded 3 sacks throughout the game.
Cristobal stated that miscues on special teams, penalties, and costly turnovers were the areas in which he believes hurt his team the most throughout the game. Cristobal expressed that he addressed these issues with his team in practice on Monday.
The Hurricanes struggled in the red zone throughout the game. They were unable to punch it in the end zone and were forced to settle for field goals. When Cristobal addressed the issues in the red zone, he said, “We have to continue to design things and coach things better. I don’t think you point a finger at anybody. That’s not our program, that’s not what we do. You own it completely as an organization. And so collectively, we have to come up with a better way to score points.”
Throughout the press conference, Cristobal continued to reiterate the importance of the coaching staff helping their players with the development that is needed. Following his first loss as the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes, Cristobal was aware that there is room for improvement and is taking the task head on, along with his players and his staff.
