Buzzer Beater Leads to No. 13 Miami’s First Home Loss
The Miami Hurricanes hosted Florida State on Saturday afternoon, in front of a sold out crowd at the Watsco Center. The Hurricanes fell to Florida State, 85-84, following a three pointer from Florida State’s Matthew Cleveland at the buzzer.
Miami entered the game 15-0 at home. The Hurricanes’ home win streak was snapped by FSU’s thunderous 25 point comeback.
Miami gained their largest lead of the game with 1:29 left in the first half, going up 50-25, and entered halftime with a 23 point lead. Florida State, slowly chipping away at Miami’s lead throughout the second half, took their first lead of the game with 6:01 left, going up 71-70.
The two teams battled back and forth, leading up Jordan Miller’s corner three to put Miami up by two with 0:05 left. FSU’s Matthew Cleveland answered with a three of his own at the buzzer to ultimately snap the Hurricanes’ home win streak.
Despite the loss, all five of the Hurricanes’ starters stepped up with Nigel Pack out with a lower extremity injury. Along with his last second shot, Miller led the team with 21 points, while recording 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Joesph, Omier, Poplar, and Wong all scored in double figures as well.
