Hurricanes Win Big in Battle of Miamis
The Miami Hurricanes opened their season against Miami-Ohio at Hard Rock Stadium on Friday night. The Hurricanes started their season on the right foot, coming away with a 38-3 win over the RedHawks.
Tyler Van Dyke got off to a hot start, completing his first pass of the game to Colbie Young for a 44 yard touchdown. Van Dyke finished the game completing 17/22 passes for 201 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception.
Following their first possession, the remainder of the Hurricanes’ first half scoring came from field goals. Miami relied heavily on Andres Borregales, and he answered the bell, going 3/3 on field goals and 3/3 on PATs.
The Hurricanes went in halftime with only a 13 point lead but closed the door on the RedHawks in the second half, scoring 22 unanswered points.
Miami’s run game was impressive throughout the game. The Hurricanes put up more total yards on the ground than through the air, finishing the game with 250 rushing yards.
It was an all around effort from the Hurricanes running back stable, with Henry Parish Jr. leading the way with 90 yards and 1 touchdown, while averaging 10 yards per carry. Mark Fletcher Jr. followed him up with 76 yards and 1 touchdown, while Ajay Allen rushed for 47 yards, and Donald Chaney Jr. rushed for 38 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Hurricanes’ mdefense held steady throughout the game, only allowing 1 field goal. They held the RedHawks to just 51 rushing yards, 164 passing yards, and 9 total first downs. The defense finished the game with 3 sacks and 6 tackles for loss, while Francisco Mauigoa, led the way with 5 total tackles.
