UNC Football Names Drake Maye as Starting QB
North Carolina has named redshirt freshman, Drake Maye, as their starting quarterback. Head coach, Mack Brown, made the announcement on Monday.
Since the departure of Tar Heel all-time great, Sam Howell, UNC has been looking for their next great starting quarterback. Drake Maye and sophomore quarterback, Jacolby Criswell, have been in competition since the beginning of spring camp. The long awaited announcement of who will be the season opener starter, comes five days before the Tar Heels’ first game against FAMU.
Despite Maye getting the starting nod, it is very likely Criswell will see the field during the season as well. Brown explained that the quarterback competition was very close and said, “We’re pleased with both of them and both will play at some point during the year.”
