UCF Softball: No Hit & Shut Out By Louisiana 8-0
UCF Softball hosted Louisiana tonight at the UCF Softball Complex “The Plex”in Orlando, FL. The #22 Knights entered with a 5-5 record while Louisiana took the field with a 4-5 record. Both teams competed over the weekend in the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational which boasted a gauntlet of nationally ranked teams. While in separate brackets, both teams faced their fair share of nationally ranked teams. UCF went 2-3 versus 4 teams ranked in the top 25. Although Louisiana did not pick up a win, they definitely gained some experience in facing 5 Top 25 teams with 4 ranked in the top 7.
Louisiana jumped on UCF quickly and never looked back. The Lady Ragin’ Cajuns started the first inning by racking up 3 hits for a total of 4 runs which included a 3 run blast from Alexa Langeliers over the right field wall. Langeliers went to work again in the third and fifth innings. In the third, she drove a double to left center scoring Karly Heath from second base and in the fifth she capped off her night with another 3 run bomb to left center.
Unfortunately for the Lady Knights, they did not have nearly the same success with their bats as Louisiana did. Meghan Schorman put on a pitching clinic for Louisiana. Schorman pitched a 5 inning, no hit shut out with 4 strikeouts, 5 walks, and 1 hit batter.
In the loss, UCF falls to 5-6 and will travel to play Stetson in Deland, FL tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. Louisiana improves to 5-5 will travel to Baton Rouge, LA to play in the LSU Crossover Tournament and first face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, Feb 25 at noon.
