UCF QB Plumlee Sidelined With Leg Injury – Transfer Timmy McClain Named QB 1
UCF quarterback, John Rhys Plumlee will miss the next few weeks, as announced by UCF head coach, Gus Malzahn, on Monday.
The injury is being referred to as a leg injury, but specifics of the injury are unknown. When Malzahn was asked if it is a knee injury, he responded, “Yeah, it’s a – I don’t want to get specific on business, but it’s a leg injury. I think everybody saw that.” Malzahn stated that the injury does not require surgery and he expects Plumlee to be back in a few weeks and update on a week by week basis.
Plumlee suffered the injury on the final drive of UCF’s 18-16 win over Boise State. He was hit while sliding on a 7-yard run to put the Knights into field goal position for the game-winning field goal by Colton Boomer.
UCF plays Villanova on Saturday, before their first Big 12 game at Kansas State on Sept. 23rd. USF transfer, Timmy McClain, will be the starting quarterback while Plumlee is out.
McClain started nine games for USF as a true freshman in 2021, where he nearly defeated UCF, throwing for 222 yards and rushing for a touchdown in a 17-13 loss.
In the Knights’ season opener against Kent State, McClain went 3-for-5 for 53 yards, while rushing for 21 yards on two carries.
