No. 25 Miami Comes Up Short to No. 12 North Carolina on the Road
No. 25 Miami traveled to Chapel Hill this weekend to take on No. 12 North Carolina. The Hurricanes struggled coming out of halftime, leading to a 41-31 loss to the Tarheels.
Despite fumbling on North Carolina’s 1-yard line in the first quarter, Miami finished the half strong, going into halftime with a 17-14 lead.
The third quarter is where it started to fall apart for the Hurricanes. Miami turned the ball over on their first two possessions, with one fumble and one interception. On the defensive side of the ball, the Hurricanes gave up three touchdowns in the Tarheels’ first four possessions. Throughout the third quarter, UNC outscored Miami 21-0. A very close and contested game turned into a 35-17 UNC lead rather quickly.
The Tarheels topped off their explosive third quarter with a field goal in the beginning of the fourth quarter, giving UNC a three score lead, 38-17.
Miami was able to convert two touchdowns during the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late, with the Tarheels walking away with a 41-31 win.
With the loss, Miami dropped its second straight game, falling to 0-2 in the ACC. The Hurricanes are currently sitting at 11th in the conference.
