No. 13 Miami (FL) Wins Big in Season Opener, Cleveland Records Double-Double in Debut
No. 13 Miami (FL) opened their season with a 101-60 win over NJIT on Monday night. Florida State transfer, Matthew Cleveland was a key contributor, recording a double-double in his Hurricanes debut.
Junior guard, Matthew Cleveland, was one of the Hurricanes biggest additions to their roster following their historic Final Four run. In his two years at FSU, Cleveland averaged 12.6 points, 6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.
On Monday night, Cleveland recorded 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists, while 58% from the field.
Cleveland was not the only Hurricane to record a double-double on Monday. Norchad Omier put up 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
The rest of Miami’s starting five had key contributions as well. Wooga Poplar led the team in scoring with a career-high 21 points. Bensley Joseph put up 9 points. Nigel Pack stuffed the stat sheet with 8 points, 9 assists, and 5 rebounds.
Miami will host UCF on Friday, November 10th, where the Hurricanes will be raising their Final Four banner.
